We installed our 5Kw solar system 8 years ago when we first built our home. We moved from Boston and at the time California was having rolling blackouts to deal with the power crunch. We were afraid of the energy crisis we seemed to be moving toward and chose to avoid it entirely. We decided we would install a system large enough to  power our whole house and found that in the California sun it is not difficult at all. With the tax credits and instant 50% rebate from the state, we were able to install a large system which will has already paid for itself. The best part is no electric bill!

We are now looking into harnessing wind power as our home has now become a working ranch with six barns, 60 alpacas, four computers and a jewelry and fiber studio on-site and electric bills have crept back into our home... Stay tuned for the next chapter.
